Petersburg is affectionately nicknamed “Alaska’s Little Norway” and has a distinctly Norwegian flavor. Here we welcomed a group of local children, the Leikarring Norwegian Folk Dancers, aboard to perform and enjoyed home-made Norwegian pastries. Fishing and tourism are the mainstays of this small, quaint town which has the largest home-based halibut fleet in southeast Alaska.

We sighted dozens of bald eagles. They circled above us and landed in nearby trees where only their bright white head alerted us to their location.
