The M.S. Nordkapp was the sister ship to our own ship, the M.S. Nordnorge. The Nordkapp hit a rock near the entrance to Whaler's Bay and tore a hole in the outer hull. Since we were the nearest and only ship large enough to take on 230 passengers, we rushed to their rescue. In doing so, we missed several of our stops as we took them back to Ushuaia. In crossing the Drake Passage with the additional passengers, we encountered the worst storm in recorded history. Waves were measured at 25 meters (80 feet) and many went over the top of our ship. No injuries but lots of sea sickness.
