In 1978, I visited my friend Shirley who worked at the American Consulate in Zagreb, Yugoslavia.

For three weeks, we drove through the country and visited some of the most beautiful and marvelous sites. We were greeted everywhere we went with friendly faces and welcoming smiles.

When we got lost or needed help, someone always mysteriously appeared to help us out.

Some of the places we visited have been destroyed due to the war. Places like Mostar will never be the same and we were so glad we crossed the bridge while it was still standing.
